Metal fabricators of heavy gauge products like large diameter pipeline sections, rebar, and park furniture use significant quantities of powder coatings. This is one of the most distinct of powder markets, where the primary purpose of the coating is corrosion protection. Heavier metals are often preheated and the coating applied to greater depth. A few formulators dominate this $100 million market for powder. A leader, 3M, does not participate in the decorative powder market.
